FAQs

What is a Personal Care Home?

There is a lot of confusion about what a PCH is vs a nursing home. The main difference is the care that the residents need and their ability to take care of themselves. Residents of a PCH do not require the level care of a nursing home and in many cases can live mostly independent but not to where they can live on their own. In fact, many residents in a PCH live very normal, productive lives with some holding simple part-time jobs, many owning personal vehicles and some married with children.

My loved one has Alzheimer’s, can he live in a Personal Care Home?

That depends on the personal care home. Our personal care home is not licensed for memory care residents which have separate rules and regulations specific for the care of those with cognitive disabilities. Although we do not accept residents with Alzheimer’s or Dementia, you can contact us and we would be happy to refer you to quality facilities that do.

What sets the Pendley Personal Care Home apart from the rest?

Well, we are one of the oldest, locally owned and operated PCH in the CSRA. While most of our residents need some sort of assistance, we have some residents who do not require any assistance. They decided to move in our home because they are getting up in age and knew we would take care of them. In fact, our very first resident from back in 1997 is still a resident in our home today.

Why do some personal care homes look like private residences?

There are no rules or laws as to what type of building (home) can be used as a personal care home. There are however many regulations as to how the building must conform in order to be used as a personal care home and must be inspected by City and State agencies. Things like square footage per resident, specific safety features and location are just a few examples.

How do I know if a Personal Care Home is licensed?

All PCHs must be licensed by the state, zoned by the city and have proper city business licenses. Use the links below to check for yourself.

Does a PCH have to have a sign?

No. However the building must have its address clearly visible from the road. If you are unsure if a property is being used as a PCH, you can do a simple web search by using the address. A legitimate business will show up by doing an address search and you can find the business name. From there, you can search for a city business license or state permit.
